By Jeff Davies

Amazon.com Inc. has been voted the most valuable brand in the world in a new ranking released on Tuesday, media reported.

The e-commerce giant was valued at $315.5 billion in the BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brand ranking 2019 compiled by WPP research agency Kantar, clinching first place on the list. The company’s global BrandZ head Doreen Wang attributed Amazon’s jump to its diverse portfolio of services and said that it brand growth demonstrated how brands were now less tied to individual categories and regions.

Amazon’s ascent meant that it knocked fellow tech titans Apple Inc. and Google, who had spent a combined 12 years at the top of the rankings, into second and third place respectively with valuations of $309.5 billion and $309 billion respectively. Microsoft was fourth while Visa came in fifth with Facebook, Alibaba, Tencent, McDonald’s and AT&T rounding off the top ten.
